shanty choir "De hondsrugzangers" exloo NL

Hunsow and the Shanty choir.

The men choir "De Hondsrugzangers" has been started in 1998. May be you don't expect an shanty choir on the sandy soil of Drenthe (Holland), but it is not really strange. A legend tells us that a long time ago, the Vikings sailed to the neighbourhood of the village of Exloo with the intention to destroy the city of Hunsow and its harbour.

We will never know if this city really existed, but nevertheless, the members of Exloo and its surroundings know how to sing.

And the ladies too!!

After its start, the choir soon had about fifty members, comming from nearby villages. Marco Warta, graduated at the conservatoire, is the choirmaster. The choir is accompanied by six musicians; two accordeonists, one double-bass and two guitarists. Als the conductor play's often an instrument. Two of the accordeonists are ladies, and that is remarkable for a choir with only men.
